PlayStation 3 FAQ's

When can I expect to receive my PlayStation 3?
The Official launch date in the UK and Europe is March 23rd 2007.

If I pre order today, will I be charged straight away?
Nearly all retailers say they will not charge your credit card until your PlayStation 3 has been dispatched. Just about the only exception to this is Comet, they will charge you a deposit of £50 when you order.

If I pre order, am I guarenteed to receive a PlayStation 3?
Unlike previous launches, retailers have said they will stop taking pre orders once their allocation has been sold. They best option is to get onto the list as soon as possible. All retailers say that customers will be sent a PlayStation 3 on a First Come First Served basis.

Is there more than one version of the PlayStation 3?
There are two versions available. The most expensive is the 60Gb version at a launch price of £425. The second lesser version, the 20Gb, will not be available in the uK and Europe on launch date. This is expected to sell for quite a lot less. However there are more differences than the amount of disc space. See our Specifications page for more detail.

Is it worth buying more than one PlayStation 3 so I can sell on eBay?
This is always a tricky one to answer. However in the last launch like this (Nintendo Wii) the allocation of units for pre order was lower than this allocation of PlayStation 3. Demand is still high however, so assuming that the initial allocation runs out people that missed out will still be looking to buy. There are already some eBay auctions for PS3's on the go. Take a look at the eBay auctions here to see what we mean.

Will my European PlayStation 3 play PS2 and PSOne Games?
SONY announced on the 23 February that the Eurpoean version of the PlayStation 3 will not be as backward compatable as the US / Japan versions. "The backwards compatibility is not going to be as good as the U.S. and Japan models," a Sony spokesman said. The reason for this is that on the European model, software will handle some of the functionality of compatability that on the other models was handled by dedicated chips.
